Kyoto, Oct. 30 (Jiji Press)--Hyatt Hotels Corp. opened a new hotel in the western Japan city of Kyoto on Wednesday under its luxury Park Hyatt brand.

The second Park Hyatt hotel in Japan after the one in Tokyo features classic Japanese design. It has 70 rooms, with rates starting from around 110,000 yen per room per night.

The Park Hyatt Kyoto was built by Takenaka Corp. on the premises of a 142-year-old "ryotei" high-end Japanese restaurant in the historic Higashiyama district.

The hotel is designed to represent Kyoto's culture and history, Masahiko Sakamura, vice president of Hyatt Japan Co., the Japanese arm of the U.S. hotel chain, told reporters on Tuesday.

"We would like foreign guests to further understand the history and tradition (of Kyoto) as our strength lies in the inbound market," Sakamura said.
