Toshiba to Set Up IoT Service Consortium
Tokyo, Nov. 5 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Toshiba Corp. <6502> said Tuesday it will set up next March a consortium to realize services connecting home appliances from various makers utilizing internet of things, or IoT, technologies.
Nine companies, including telecommunications carriers KDDI Corp. <9433> and Softbank Corp <9434>, and electronics parts maker Kyocera Corp. <6971>, have expressed support for the plan.
For the consortium, Toshiba aims to bring together about 100 companies across industries.
In the envisioned services, consumers will be able to link home appliances as they want via a smartphone app, allowing appliances to be activated by other devices.
