Fukuoka Couple Arrested for Shooting Baby with Air Gun
Fukuoka, Nov. 6 (Jiji Press)--Police on Wednesday arrested a couple in Fukuoka Prefecture, southwestern Japan, on suspicion of heavily injuring their one-year-old son by firing an air gun at him many times.
The couple is self-employed Masanori Jokei, 24, and his wife, Ai, also 24. The boy, Yuiga, died of pneumonia soon after suffering the injury, raising suspicion that his death resulted from abuse.
Both the father and the mother have denied shooting Yuiga, their third son.
The Fukuoka prefectural police suspect the two conspired and shot dozens of plastic bullets at the infant with the rifle-shaped air gun in their home in Tagawa around late November last year.
