TEPCO to Sell Power across Japan except in Okinawa

Economy

Tokyo, Nov. 12 (Jiji Press)--Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. <9501> said Tuesday the group will sell electricity to households across Japan except in the southernmost prefecture of Okinawa from Wednesday.

The group hopes to acquire customers in the new regional markets while keeping its users moving out from the greater Tokyo area from switching to other utilities.

It also aims to strengthen its profitability amid intensifying competition following the full liberalization of electricity retailing in 2016.

The TEPCO group will start power retailing in the Hokkaido northernmost, Hokuriku central and Chugoku and Shikoku western regions.

Outside the greater Tokyo area, TEPCO's home market, the group sells electricity to households in the Tohoku northeastern, Chubu central, Kansai western and Kyushu southwestern regions.
