Tokyo, Nov. 18 (Jiji Press)--Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. <7012> said Monday it will cooperate with major trading house Mitsui & Co. <8031> and Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co. to launch a space debris removal service in fiscal 2025.

Through the collaboration with the two companies with proven experience in the space sector, Kawasaki Heavy aims to boost its efforts for commercialization of the service, company officials said.

Kawasaki Heavy plans to launch a small demonstration satellite, designed to map the distribution of space debris, in 2020.

The satellite will chart the amount and distribution of space debris with an image sensor. It is also equipped with special arms to catch debris.

If it succeeds in launching the satellite by the end of 2020, Kawasaki Heavy will conduct some testing before the start of the debris removal service in fiscal 2025.
