Sojitz, Others to Upgrade Communications Networks in Myanmar

Tokyo, Nov. 21 (Jiji Press)--Trading house Sojitz Corp. <2768> and three other Japanese companies will upgrade telecommunications infrastructure in Myanmar in a 7-billion-yen project financed by a low-interest loan from the Japanese government.

The companies received an order for the project from Myanma Posts & Telecommunications, the country's largest telecom operator, according to a statement released Wednesday.

It will be the first Japanese official development assistance loan project for a Myanmar telecom operator.

The Japanese companies aim to complete the project by 2021.

For the project, Sojitz has teamed up with NTT Communications Corp., NEC Corp. <6701> and NEC Networks & System Integration Corp. <1973>.
