Tokyo, Nov. 21 (Jiji Press)--Teijin Ltd. <3401> and three other Japanese companies have set up Productive Aging Consortium to help extend healthy life expectancies, Teijin has said.

The three are Meiji Holdings Co. <2269>, Shimadzu Corp. <7701> and Oriental Yeast Co., a subsidiary of Nisshin Seifun Group Inc. <2002>, according to an announcement Wednesday.

The consortium will provide health and other information and hold events. Other companies and research institutes are asked to join.

Productive aging is a U.S.-originated concept that sees aging positively. It puts emphasis on creating a diverse society in which elderly people can live actively.

Meiji Holdings and Oriental Yeast will contribute with their expertise in microbes, Teijin with its knowledge of functional food ingredients, and Shimadzu with its expertise acquired by developing medical and other equipment.
