Matsuya Gets Merchandising Rights for Moomin

Tokyo, Nov. 26 (Jiji Press)--Major Japanese department store operator Matsuya Co. <8237> has acquired the merchandising rights for popular Finnish character Moomin in Japan and abroad.

Matsuya will be engaged in planning, manufacturing and sales of the character's products, the company said on Monday.

It will be the first time for the department store operator to get into a character-based business.

A Matsuya subsidiary trading company, which mainly imports and sells Scandinavian products, has concluded a deal with a Swedish company that manages all Moomin licenses.

As the first step, Matsuya will start selling chocolates with illustrations of Moomin in collaboration with luxury brand Bvlgari's chocolate shop.
