Tokyo, Nov. 27 (Jiji Press)--Japanese glass maker AGC Inc. <5201> said Wednesday it will utilize for production facility development augmented reality technology to add computer-generated three-dimensional images to real-world views.
AGC hopes that the technology will make it easier for developers to find flaws before completion and will shorten the time needed for facility development by 30 pct.
In December, the company will start trial use of the webAR technology developed by Tokyo information technology startup Kakucho Inc.
WebAR users can see 3-D images of planned equipment over real-world views inside production facilities on the screens of their smartphones and other devices.
Currently, facility developers check specification documents and drawings. But equipment, when actually installed, often turn out different from what product developer expected.
