Presidents' Compensation at Big Japanese Firms Hits Record

Tokyo, Dec. 3 (Jiji Press)--The median compensation of presidents at companies with annual sales of one trillion yen or more in Japan rose 0.9 pct to a record 99.46 million yen in fiscal 2019 from the previous year, a private-sector survey showed Tuesday.
The fiscal 2019 survey covers 901 listed and 27 unlisted companies. Of them, 52 firms have one trillion yen or more in annual sales.
According to the survey, 66.7 pct have systems to evaluate the performance of directors, up 14.8 percentage points from fiscal 2018.
The survey was conducted between July and September by Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank and Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting LLC.
Companies with stock-related compensation accounted for 60.2 pct, up 15.3 points.
