New Schedules for 2020 Olympic Marathons, Race Walks Unveiled
Tokyo, Dec. 4 (Jiji Press)--The 2020 Tokyo Games organizing committee announced Wednesday the new schedules for the marathon and race walk events, whose venues have been moved to Sapporo from Tokyo due to concerns over summer heat.
The marathon events for both men and women will start at 7 a.m. (10 p.m. the previous day GMT), an hour later than had been scheduled before the change of venues.
The women's race is set for Aug. 8, and the men's for Aug. 9, the last day of the quadrennial Summer Olympic Games, according to the committee.
The 20-kilometer race walk event for men will start at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 6. On Aug. 7, the men's 50-kilometer event will begin at 5:30 a.m., and the women's 20-kilometer event at 4:30 p.m.
At a meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Wednesday, the International Olympic Committee agreed to make Odori Park, in the center of the northern Japan city, the start and finish point of the marathon and race walk events.
