Brave Blossoms Parade in Tokyo

Tokyo, Dec. 11 (Jiji Press)--Members of the Japanese national team for the 2019 Rugby World Cup paraded in Tokyo's Marunouchi business district on Wednesday, receiving a storm of cheers from some 50,000 fans.

Michael Leitch, who captained the team in the World Cup in Japan, said he is glad to see the country become "one team."

"One team," a slogan of the national rugby team, was picked as this year's top buzzword in Japan earlier this month. Japan reached the Rugby World Cup quarterfinals for the first time in this year's tournament. Leitch also said he will make efforts to strengthen Japanese rugby further.

Dressed in suits, 28 members of the team, dubbed the Brave Blossoms, walked down the 800-meter parade route set on Marunouchi Nakadori street. Among the participating members were prop Keita Inagaki and full back Kotaro Matsushima.

"I'm really grateful as so many fans gathered," Inagaki said after the parade. "The cheers were warm."
