Tokyo, June 16 (Jiji Press)--A total of 44 people were newly confirmed to have the novel coronavirus in Japan on Tuesday, including 27 new cases in Tokyo.
The Japanese capital saw a double-digit number of new cases for the 16th consecutive day, and 20 or more new cases for the sixth straight day. Still, the daily figure fell from Sunday's 47 and Monday's 48.
Meanwhile, the total number of fatalities among infected people in the country rose to 951 on Tuesday, with two deaths reported each in Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo, and one in the northern prefecture of Hokkaido.
Of the 27 new infection cases in Tokyo, 10 are believed to be linked to nightclubs or other nighttime businesses.
Tokyo's new infection figures for Sunday and Monday reflected coronavirus testing of groups of people related to such businesses in the capital's Shinjuku Ward.
