Tokyo, Jan. 29 (Jiji Press)--Japanese imaging devices maker Canon Inc. said Thursday that it will promote Executive Vice President Kazuto Ogawa to president and chief operating officer, effective on March 27.

“I will do my best to fulfill my duties for the future,” Ogawa, 67, said at a press conference in Tokyo.

Chairman, President and CEO Fujio Mitarai said he chose Ogawa “as a partner for strategy implementation.”

After Ogawa’s promotion, Mitarai will still remain chairman and CEO. He said he intends to step down from Canon leadership once he becomes sure that Ogawa is ready to take over management.

Born in Tokyo, Ogawa joined Canon in 1981 and served as president of Canon U.S.A. Inc. before becoming executive vice president in March 2024.
