• Historical Landmarks of the Kamakura Lords

During the Kamakura era, Japan was the scene of constant scheming and strategies implemented by powerful clans as the Minamoto gave way to the Hōjō. The outcome was a bakufu, or military government, that could stand on its own against the imperial court of the east. This series traces the history and main figures of the Kamakura bakufu, now receiving fresh attention in Japan thanks to the 2022 NHK period drama Kamakura-dono no 13 nin (The 13 Lords of the Shōgun).
