Japanese Literature in the Twentieth Century: A Shōwa Retrospective

The Shōwa era began in 1926 and ended in 1989, with Shōwa 64. If it had continued, however, 2025 would be Shōwa 100. Nippon.com is marking this year by assembling a library of 50 books representing Japanese literature from 1926, through the devastation of war and the country’s postwar economic rise, until 1989.
