Shibata Megumi

Artisan specializing in bamboo weaving. Born in Torigoe, Iwate Prefecture, in 1958. She grew up around the Torigoe weaving tradition and has been making traditional bamboo handicrafts in the style since 1985. Taught at a promotional facility in Torigoe prior to opening her own school to train new generations of artisans. She holds exhibitions and other events to promote Torigoe weaving and has won accolades for her original designs.
