Ishida Kanta

Manga scholar and critic. Born in Tokyo in 1960. In 1994 joined the Yomiuri Shimbun, where he covered the arts, particularly manga, and various subcultural fields. In 2004–6 edited a regular pop culture feature in the newspaper’s evening edition. Served on the culture department’s editorial board from 2017 to 2023; retired in 2025. Was the interviewer and assistant writer for Umezu Kazuo’s Watashi wa Umezu Kazuo: Manga kara geijutsu e (I Am Umezu Kazuo: From Manga to the World of Art); his works also include Must Read Manga, available in English.
