Kawamura Sayuri

Chief economist in the Japan Research Institute’s Economics Department. After graduating from Kyoto University with a law degree, worked at the Bank of Japan before joining JRI in 1991. Has held her present post since 2019. Her publications include Jizoku fukanō na zaisei: Saiken no tame no sentakushi (Unsustainable Public Finances: Our Choices for Fiscal Consolidation) and Nippon Ginkō: Waga kuni ni semaru kiki (Bank of Japan: The Imminent Crisis of Our Country, awarded the 45th Ishibashi Tanzan Prize in October 2024). Member of a Ministry of Finance Fiscal System Council committee examining Japan’s fiscal systems.
