Mabuchi Akiko

President, Western Art Foundation. Former director-general of the National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo. Professor emeritus at Japan Women’s University, where she specializes in the history of modern Western art, Japonisme, and gender studies. Publications include Japonisumu gensō no Nihon (Japonisme: The Japan of the Imagination) and Butai no ue no Japonisumu: Enjirareta gensō no “Niho josei” (Japonisme on Stage: Performing the Fantasy of the “Japanese Woman”).
