Hanzawa Kazuhiko

Specially appointed professor since 2018 at Niigata University, where he teaches in the Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences. Specialist in cardiopulmonary surgery. Earned his MD at Niigata University. Serves as a director of the Society for Disaster Shelter and Refuge Life. Began working to combat postdisaster “economy class syndrome” following the 2004 Niigata Chūetsu Earthquake, and has since then made recommendations on ways to enhance Japan’s disaster response—especially through improvements to TKB (toilet, kitchen, and bed) facilities at evacuation centers.
