Kamimura Iwao

Theater critic. Born in Tokyo in 1940. Completed masters course in literature studies at Keiō University (specializing in British and American literature). Began working as a kabuki critic in 1977, contributing to the Engekikai and Gekihyō magazines. Became the drama critic for the Nikkei in 1994. In the same year, won the twenty-eighth Kansai Literature Prize. Author of Kabuki Today: The Art and Tradition, Kabuki hyakunen hyakuwa (Kabuki: A Hundred Years, a Hundred Tales), and other works.
