Director at the Methane Hydrate Research Center at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology. Received his doctorate in engineering from Hokkaidō University. Has been a visiting researcher at the Alberta Energy Research Institute and a chief researcher at the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization.
