Principal Economist at the Japan Center for Economic Research specializing in the political economy of India and South Asia. Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1963. Earned his degree in political science and economics from Waseda University before joining the Nikkei. Served as the newspaper’s bureau chief in Bahrain, Tehran, and New Delhi. Helped launch the Nikkei Asian Review English-language publication in 2013 as deputy editor.
